You’ll start your day by discovering Château d’Astros. A sumptuous estate steeped in history, just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean.
“In the 17th century, the original farmhouse was transformed into a Commandery by the Knights of Malta. They also built the very first Chai d’Astros in 1637.It was not until the 19th century that the Château was built. Maximin Martin, a wealthy soap-maker from Marseille, acquired the land at Astros. His grandson, Marc Maximim Martin, a lover of Italian art, had a majestic Château built in 1860, inspired by Tuscan villas. He bequeathed the Astros estate to the grandson of his first cousin Joseph Maurel. Today, the wine estate offers organic wines and has belonged to the Maurel family for 9 generations. It’s a family that shares a love of the land and the living world, and is keen to help you discover the treasures of this unique place.”
Discover the history of Château d’Astros
We’d like to start our morning with a guided walk around this first winegrowing estate. There are two walks to choose from. It’s the “Sentier du Deffenson” (45 minutes, easy): a walk through the estate’s woods and the grounds of Château d’Astros. We finish this walk with a tasting of 3 of the estate’s organic wines in their cellar.

For lunch at the Vigna restaurant, the chef has revisited his southern roots with a new menu for the estate’s restaurant. A bottle of wine for 4 people will be served; lunch not included.
