Wine Tours and Wine Tourism Experiences in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
What if you discovered the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in a whole new way?
Imagine… The southern light gliding over the hills, vineyards stretching across the landscape to the horizon, the scent of pine trees and garrigue carried by a gentle sea breeze. In the distance, the Mediterranean sparkles. Here, just a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Saint-Tropez, a different world awaits you: one of vineyards, Provençal villages, and encounters that give a trip its true flavor.
Welcome to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, a destination where wine is discovered as much with the eyes as with the nose, the palate, and the heart.
Nestled between the sea and the hills, discover a vineyard shaped by its environment, its history, and the expertise of passionate men and women. Much more than a tasting, we invite you to fully immerse yourself in the art of living in the South of France.
With Beyond The Wine®, the journey begins in the heart of the vineyards.
The Gulf of Saint-Tropez: A Wine-Growing Region Between the Sea and the Maures Mountains
Behind the legendary beaches and iconic villages of the French Riviera lies a wine-growing region with a unique identity. Here, the vines grow between the hills of the Maures Mountains and the waters of the Mediterranean, in an environment where geology, climate, and landscapes shape the character of the wines.
CRYSTALLINE PROVENCE: SOILS SHAPED BY TIME
The vineyards of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez are part of Crystal-Clear Provence, an ancient geological region dominated by the rugged terrain of the Maures Mountains. Its subsoil consists primarily of metamorphic rocks such as mica schist and gneiss, along with sandstone formations and soils resulting from their weathering.
This geology gives rise to a mosaic of soils and landscapes. From one plot to the next, soil depth, composition, drainage, and exposure can vary. These are all factors that winemakers take into account to adapt their practices and bring out the unique characteristics of their vines.
A MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE TEMPERED BY THE SEA
In the Gulf, the Mediterranean is never far away. Its influence is felt in the vineyards, where sea breezes help naturally ventilate the vineyards and help temper the intense summer heat.
The topography of the Maures adds another dimension to this climate: hills, valleys, different exposures, and plots that are more or less sheltered create a variety of conditions. This combination of abundant sunshine, maritime influence, and topography gives rise to distinct mesoclimates.
A Mediterranean landscape where vineyards blend with nature
Here, the rows of vines are set against a typically Provençal backdrop. They stand alongside cork oak forests, umbrella pines, olive trees, and maquis vegetation. Roads wind through the hills, past wineries, and through the region’s 12 villages—such as Gassin and Grimaud—sometimes offering spectacular views of the blue Mediterranean Sea like we can have in Ramatuelle.
This landscape is more than just a backdrop: it reflects a balance between winemaking, the natural environment, and agricultural traditions.
Wines with a Wide Range of Expressions
The Côtes de Provence AOP is particularly well-known for its rosés, but the vineyards of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez are not limited to this style. The estates also produce white and red wines, each with its own distinct character. Luminous rosés, fresh and aromatic whites, and elegant or more structured reds: each wine tells a story about this region in its own way.
Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Tibouren are the primary varieties used to produce rosés and reds. Rolle—also known as Vermentino—Sémillon, and Clairette are used to make the whites.
Behind every bottle lies a vineyard plot, a vintage, and choices regarding cultivation and winemaking—but also a human story. It is precisely this diversity that we love to share during our wine tours: taking the time to understand the landscape, listen to the winemakers, and taste the different expressions of the wines from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
But to truly understand a wine, nothing beats discovering the place where it was born.
Meet the winemakers, understand the wine, and experience the region
Stepping through the gates of a winery is like entering a unique world.
It means exploring a cellar, observing the techniques and tools of the trade, walking among the rows of vines, and understanding the work that goes into every bottle.
As the tour progresses, the landscapes take on a whole new dimension. You gain a better understanding of why a particular plot is planted here, how the climate influences the vines, and why two neighboring wineries can produce such different wines.
Then comes the tasting.
The pale hues of a rosé, the citrus or fresh fruit notes of a white, the aromas of red berries and spices in a red… Take the time to look, smell, and savor. Tasting then becomes another way to explore the region.
Because wine is never just a product: it reflects a place, a climate, a craft, and the people who bring it to life.
