4- THE DOMAINE SAINTE MARIE, organic estate
The estate’s origins date back to the 18th century. At the time, the land belonged to the Chartreuse de la Verne, located a little higher up in the Massif des Maures. Even today, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and oak trees, the statue of the Virgin Mary hovers almost affectionately over the estate and its buildings. Marvel at the 40-hectare Sainte-Marie vineyard. South-facing, the soil is sandy and permeable.
After tasting a remarkable wine from Tuscany aged at sea off the coast of Croatia, Christopher Duburcq (owner of Domaine Sainte-Marie) wanted to explore the impact of immersion on the wines of his winery in this project. As a result, 100 bottles of Cuvée Rouge 1884 vintage 2019 were placed in 10 oyster traps in June 2022. Last June, all but 1 of the racks were removed from the water.
How about tasting these wines* on this wine tour? A great way to round off this oenological day, with a tasting of Cuvée Rouge 1884, a 2019 vintage aged in our cellars, and a tasting of the same wine, but which has spent 20 months at sea.
*In addition (75€/person) at the time of your online booking, estimated additional time of 1h30; so in total 9h/9h30 for this full day wine tour.
